Registan is the heart of Samarkand and the most famous monument of Central Asian architecture. The word “Registan” means “sandy place” in Persian. For centuries, it has been the center of city life, a place where trade, culture, and political gatherings were held. 📍 Location: Samarkand city center, Samarkand region. 📜 History: Its main appearance was formed in the 15th–17th centuries. The Ulugbek Madrasah was one of the largest centers of learning in the East at its time. Registan Square has hosted trade fairs, festivals, and political events in the past. The square is very photogenic during evening lighting.
The Shah-i-Zinda Ensemble is one of the most beautiful architectural complexes in Samarkand, consisting of mausoleums built during the 14th–15th centuries. Known as the “Living King,” it is famous for its colorful tilework, spiritual significance, and mysterious atmosphere.
The Bibi-Khanym Mosque, built by Amir Temur in the 14th century, was once one of the largest mosques in the world. Today, it stands as a symbol of Samarkand, impressing visitors with its massive gates, grand columns, and stunning decorations.
